The beautiful city Hongkong in China

The international trade centre at Hongkong at night

Hongkong is a former British colony on the east coast of China. It is a wonderful town to spend a nice holiday, but it is also possible to do business in Hongkong as well.

Famous attractions in Hong Kong include the Avenue of Stars, the boats in Aberdeen Harbour, the fine restaurants and of course the cityscape as a whole.

Hong Kong as British colony

In 1839, the Qing Dynasty authorities of China refused to import opium which resulted in the First Opium War between China and Britain.

Hong Kong Island was first occupied by British forces in 1841, and then formally ceded from China under the Treaty of Nanking at the end of the war.

Great-Britain established a Crown Colony here with the founding of Victoria City the following year and in 1898, Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the adjacent northern lands and Lantau Island, which became known as the New Territories.

Hong Kong in the late nineteenth century was a major trading post of the British Empire, and declared a free port to serve as an "entrepĂ´t" of the British Empire. The transfer to China again of the sovereignty of Hong Kong occurred at midnight on July 1, 1997.

Aberdeen Harbor

The famous Aberdeen Harbour is part of the Southern District, and located at the south shore of the Hong Kong Island. It is a harbor between Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen.

In 1845, Aberdeen was named after the British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen.

The place is celebrated to tourists for the “boat people” living in the harbor and the floating seafood restaurants.

Indigenously Aberdeen is known as Heung Kong Tsai, or Hong Kong Tsai, which means “Hong Kong Minor”, and is believed where the name of Hong Kong originates.

Avenue of Stars

The Avenue of Stars along the Victoria Harbor Waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui (Yau Tsim Mong district) is modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

When it was opened to the general public, on 28 April 2004, the promenade honoured an initial 73 celebrities of the Hong Kong movie industry elected by the Hong Kong Film Awards Association and the readers of City Entertainment.

Among the statues of actors the one of the actor and martial arts performer Bruce Lee is maybe the most popular.

The promenade is the node of several other tourist attractions along the waterfront. In addition to the promenade a number of attractions exist, including the New World Centre, the Clock Tower, the Space Museum, the Cultural Centre and the the Museum of Art.

The avenue commands a stunning panoramic view across Victoria Harbour. At night it is a popular viewing place for the Symphony of Lights display.
